Ouch...Ive had so many of those things done on me that I barely have a radial pulse anymore ( too much scar tissue)
At UCSF ( San Francisco) where I receive most of medical care, they have this policy that if you're gonna need more than 2 ABG sticks, they insert an A line. And if you have an A line in, that means you're going to ICU. The RT's don't them at this hospital, the interns do. It's good practice for them ,but usually torture for the patient. They should just let RT's do them.
